momentum golf physiotherapy

Struggling to achieve a full turn in your backswing?

Not hitting the ball as far as you used to?

Experiencing aches and pains during or after a round of golf?

Our golf programmes at Momentum is designed for golfers of all ages seeking to improve performance and prevent injury so that you can enjoy the game for longer. Through optimising your body’s movement patterns, a more efficient, consistent and pain-free way of swinging the club can be achieved. All sessions are led by our Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified golf physio Dom.

Don’t forget about the most important piece of equipment in the golf swing: your body.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Golf Physical Screen

Duration: 60 minute session

It all starts here. In order to receive a tailored program to meet your personal goals we must start by assessing your swing and physical movement to understand where you’re currently at. A full body golf specific screen will be conducted alongside a swing analysis, followed by a report and video analysis explaining how one is affecting the other. Assess, don’t guess!

Then you can choose between two options:

Golf Fundamentals

Duration: Five (5) weeks; One (1) consult per week (45 mins)

This is the suggested option for most golfers. You will improve your body’s physical range of motion, coordination and stability to maximise your movement capabilities in relation to your golf swing. Through manual & exercise therapy in conjunction with a home exercise program, you will build a solid foundation before golf specific strength training so that you can enjoy pain and restriction free golf for longer.

Golf Elevate

Duration: Eight (8) weeks; Two (2) consults per week (60 mins)

This option is for those who are looking to go straight into golf specific strength training. Here, you will improve your ability to utilise ground reaction forces, increase club head speed and increase overall strength and athleticism.

It is suitable for golfers who don’t struggle with current injuries or pain (on & off the golf course) and already have a personalised mobility routine to address their individual areas of insufficiency.

Common PHYSICAL ISSUES YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT that WILL BE LIMITING YOUR ABILITY TO REACH YOUR Full potential:

  • Tightness in the middle and upper back, resulting in decreased rotation of the torso and shoulders during the backswing

  • Poor coordination in isolating movement between the upper and lower body, affecting the optimal firing sequence of the swing

  • Weak core and glute affecting ability to effectively transfer energy from the ground up, through the body, and into the ball

  • A rounded posture in the upper back, making it difficult to rotate adequately in the backswing due to the spine already being in a ‘locked’ position

  • Tightness in the hip joint, which leads to decreased rotation in the backswing or downswing. This typically causes the next segment up the chain - the lower back, to overwork which can result in discomfort or possible injury down the road

Who our golf programme is for:

  • Players looking to improve golfing performance

  • Identifying and removing current pain that is affecting your golf game

  • Reducing the risk of golf-related injuries, to keep you on the fairways and greens and not on the treatment table

  • Those wanting to play more frequently, for as long as possible (increasing longevity)

  • Developing a deeper knowledge and understanding of your own body so that you can make better golfing decisions

What to expect on the day:

  • All our sessions are one-on-one to ensure you get the most out of your time with us.

  • You are encouraged to wear or bring a set of clothes and shoes you’ll be comfortable moving around in. We will also have clothes available for you to borrow and change into.

  • We will have a standard mens and ladies 7 iron in the clinic for you to swing with, however you are more than welcome to bring in your own.

About Dom

Dominic Pereira is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Physiotherapist. He’s an avid golfer and started taking lessons from a young age. He aims to get out on the course every other weekend and practice at the range or an indoor simulator once a week. He is constantly learning more about golf, whether it be through attending seminars, listening to podcasts or taking lessons with a golf pro. His favourite thing about golf is how each shot will never be the same and tries to remind himself that the most important shot in golf is the next one.

WHAT IS A TPI CERTIFIED GOLF PHYSIOTHERAPIST?

TPI stands for the Titleist Performance Institute, which is the world's leading educational organisation dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. This protocol is also known as the Body-Swing Connection. Dominic has integrated his extensive clinical knowledge and personal experience as a golfer, that when combined with the TPI methodology, will help you improve your performance, optimise swing mechanics and reduce risk of injury.

Other questions?

If you are currently experiencing pain, a recurring golf-related niggle, or currently recovering from an injury, you can give us a call to see if a PhysioCare consult is more appropriate before starting our Golf Fundamentals programme.

Disclaimer: The focus of this service is not swing coaching, but to find links between areas of restriction in the body and how it can cause the golfer to swing the way they do. In working on those areas through physiotherapy, the aim is to create greater potential range of motion, efficiency, ease of movement in the swing, and more.

Our golf physiotherapist would be happy to work with your golf instructor for an interdisciplinary approach to your game.
